It’s time to say, “Goodbye, and thank you!”

Well everybody, we’ve had a good long run and I want to say Thank You to all of you for trusting your fur-babies and your homes in my care for the past six years. At the end of this month, I’ll be officially dissolving Daily Paws Pet Care, LLC and will no longer be providing pet sitting services.

My husband and I have decided to add a bit (ok, a lot!) of adventure to our lives and break away from the ordinary. To that end, we’ve been planning, scheming, researching, dreaming, and planning some more – we are selling our house and will be moving our family of four onto a 40-ish foot sailboat with full intention to sail off into the sunset and explore the world. We have no ‘end date’ in mind – we will be living a fairly minimalist lifestyle and will travel the world in our sturdy sailboat for as long as we can and as long as we’re all having fun.

We will be listing our house for sale within the next couple of weeks. In the spring of 2015, we bought a 25 foot sailboat and took a few lessons then spent every possible weekend sailing the Columbia to gain some skill. At the end of this month, Brenden and I will head off to Bellingham and spend a week aboard a sailboat learning some crucial skills and gaining more experience through the San Juan Sailing School. Once our house sells, we will begin an active search to find The Boat that will become our home and which will carry us across the Oceans.

We will be documenting our preparations and our journey when we take off in both a web blog and in video blogs. Once we have those pages set up, I’ll return here and post a link. I hope to see some familiar names following our journey!

In the words of Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the Trade Winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Much Love,

Rachel M.

My name is Rachel Messerschmidt and I own and operate Daily Paws Pet Care, LLC in beautiful Battle Ground, Washington. I’m an animal lover at heart and grew up surrounded by animals large and small. Raised on ten acres in La Center, Washington, my family owned a myriad of different kinds of animals for as far back as I can remember. My favorite were always the dogs (which were really members of the family) and my beloved horses, but we also had chickens, pigs, a cat or two, rabbits, and many others throughout the years. Neighbors from all around hired me to care for their animals when they left on vacation. I eagerly accepted these jobs because it was a fun and easy way to earn a little money doing something I loved.

By my early twenties, I had a full time job working at the Humane Society for Southwest Washington in Vancouver and a desire to turn my pet sitting hobby into a full blown business venture. During my three month maternity leave in the summer of 2010, my mom and I teamed up and made a leap of faith. Daily Paws Pet Care was born thanks to endless encouragement and support from my mom to follow my dreams. For several years, she offered back up care and served as a partner in every aspect of growing the business. Gradually though, she turned her attention back to her own goals and dreams and left me to continue on with the business on my own.

I am fully licensed, bonded, and insured through Pet Sitters Associates, LLC and all necessary local and federal licensing agencies.

I offer many different services; if you have a care-related need for your companion pet or livestock, please give me a call and we can discuss options. I believe that companion animals thrive ideally in their own home environment whenever their owners leave town. I offer care at the client’s home for dogs, cats, exotics, horses, cows, or anything else within reason. I am also now offering nail trimming at the client’s home for cats and small breed dogs.

Let’s talk rates:

  • Drop-in care at the client’s home: $25 per visit  (1/2 hour customized care visits)
  • Overnight sleep overs at the client’s home: $100 per night (minimum of 8+ hours in the home)
  • Equine and Livestock care starting at: $25 per visit and $5 per stall cleaning (subject to individual needs)
  • Nail trimming: $15 per cat or dog (up to 25 lbs) – done in the comfort of your own home

Troy and Jaime R. say: “Our three dogs, Clyde, Bonnie and Lucy, love to have Rachel come visit during the day and also sleep over at night! It’s great to know that they’re safe at home in their own environment. Rachel’s daily updates give us peace of mind and we know that they are very well taken care of.  6 years ago, we boarded our dogs at our vet’s office and they got very sick…we almost lost them. Since then, we have been searching for a service like Daily Paws and are so glad we found Rachel….we highly recommend her for anyone in need of a trustworthy pet service!”

Susanne S. says: “I really appreciate the daily updates through text message from RacheL. My family appreciates it too, because they don’t have to hear me say, ‘I wonder how the dogs are doing…?’ several times a day during our vacations like I had done on previous vacations. I knew our dogs were being well taken care of in the comfort of their own home thanks to Daily Paws.”

Elizabeth S. says: “Great job! It was great to get away on vacation and not have to worry. And it was even better to come home to happy smiling dog and kitty faces!”

Rena G. says: “I knew I could trust Rachel and Tracey from the moment we met. They take wonderful care of our dogs, as well as all of our farm critters. We highly recommend Daily Paws!”

Pamela M. says: “Excellent service. I really appreciated the peace of mind of knowing my animals would be well cared for while I was away.”

Virginia H. says: “Rachel and Tracey came to walk Chance and play ball with him when my husband had to go out of town. I work very long hours and was so glad to have a reliable pet sitter who could come and play with Chance. They did a great job and I am looking forward to having them take care of Chance the next time my husband has to go out of town.”

Jan P. says: “Rachel at Daily Paws Pet Care has been a life saver for me and my dog, Molly. She has been extremely dependable and Molly is always excited to see her- letting me know that she is treated kindly and professionally. It is so nice to know that I can depend on Daily Paws to help care for Molly when something comes up and I need help.”
